Fantasy Football Week 17 Quarterback Ratings: Can You Keep Riding Justin Fields?

Before we get to the Week 17 rankings, let’s address some of the biggest issues Fantasy players are facing as a quarterback heading into the Fantasy Semifinals, starting with a key injury to watch out for this week:

Is Justin Fields off to a risky start?

I am not same beware that Fields struggled in Week 16 against the Bills. What bothers me was his lack of rush production—he only had seven carries for 11 yards, and only three of those rushing attempts looked like they went to plan. The concern is that Fields suffered a foot injury during Saturday’s game, admitting after the game that he was unable to put all his weight on his foot. Fields also suffered an aggravation of his previous shoulder injury, so he’s pretty much beaten in Week 17. The match is great as he torched the Lions for 43 Fantasy points the last time he played them, but Fields is so confident in his ability racing that it’s fair to wonder if you can trust it less than 100%, especially with a foot injury. I’ll be watching out for injury reports outside of practice, but I’ve definitely downgraded Fields a bit from my starting ranking.

Is Gardner Minshew a must start if he plays?

Jalen Hurts is pressing to play, and Nick Sirianni told reporters Hurts will play if he is released. However, the Eagles only need to win one of their final two games to secure the No. 1 seed, so I’m still pretty skeptical that he’ll be cleared. Either way, I think an Eagles quarterback is worth starting this week, whether it’s Hurts or Minshew. Hurts is the better option, but Minshew played very well against the Cowboys in Week 16, even with his two interceptions hardly his fault – they were contested balls that Quez Watkins absolutely could have hit. The Saints clash likely won’t give Minshew another 40 pass attempts, and it’s worth noting that the Eagles only scored 24 pass attempts in the first three quarters, so he’ll have to be efficient. But I expect him to be that way, and I’m ranking him the No. 1 QB.

Is it worth using a streamer in the championship?

Besides Minshew? I think there are some interesting options, though none that I’m comfortable with. I have Daniel Jones at QB13 for this week and Mike White at QB14, although I can go back and forth before the week is over. What White has going for him is expected passing volume, as he has attempted at least 44 passes in two of his three games. The Jets like to run the ball when they can, but they’ve shown — when anyone but Zach Wilson is in the game, at least — that they’re willing to put it up in the air and in the hands of their best star players. The Seahawks allow 11th most Fantasy points for quarterbacks, so it’s a good matchup – I would feel even better if the Seahawks had Tyler Lockett (hand) back this week. Neither of these guys is a must-have Fantasy option, but I’d go with, say, Derek Carr or Deshaun Watson, and if you need a replacement for Tua Tagovailoa, they’re better than Teddy Bridgewater.
