Going through a divorce and co-parenting has been a balancing act for Kim Kardashian.
During an appearance on Angie Martinez’s “Angie Martinez IRL” podcast posted Monday on YouTube, Kardashian spoke candidly about her split from Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and the struggles of co-raising their four children: North, 9 , Saint, 7 , Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3.
“That will always follow me,” Kardashian said of the public discourse surrounding her split from Ye, which the two announced in February 2021.
Martinez asked the Skims founder if it was a “conscious thing” to refrain from publicly discussing her divorce and relationship with her children’s father in order to “protect them.”
“I definitely protected him and will still protect him in the eyes of my children and for my children,” Kardashian replied, alluding to protecting her children from what Ye said about her on social media. “In my house, my children don’t know anything about what happens (in) the outside world.”

“I managed to do that and I’m hanging on by a thread,” he added. “I will protect this to the ends of the earth as long as I can.”
Earlier this year, Ye lashed out on social media multiple times against Kardashian, her family, and her then-boyfriend Pete Davidson. He also filed complaints that he was not being allowed to make important parenting decisions.
Kardashian explained on Monday’s podcast that her kids “don’t know shit” and because her close friends are teachers at school, she knows “what’s going on” and “what’s being talked about.”
She added: “If we’re going to school and they want to hear Dad’s song, no matter what we’re going through, no matter what’s going on in the world, I gotta have that smile on my face and blast their song and sing along with my children and act like nothing is wrong.
“Once I leave you, I might cry a lot.”

On the verge of tears, Kardashian, who was also the daughter of divorced parents Kris Jenner and the late Robert Kardashian, recalled having “the best dad” growing up.
“I don’t want to get emotional, it was just a day for me,” she said. “You know, it’s hard. Co-parenting is hard. It’s really (expletive) hard. But I had the best dad, and I had the best memories and the best experience. That’s all I want for my kids. As long as that they can have that, that’s what I’d like for them.”

In November, Kardashian and Ye reached a settlement in their divorce, avoiding a trial that had been scheduled for this month. The former couple and their lawyers filed documents seeking a judge’s approval of the terms they agreed to, including $200,000 a month in child support payments from Ye to Kardashian.
The two will also have shared custody and neither will pay child support to the other, according to court documents filed with Los Angeles Superior Court. The proposed agreement also states that the two will equally share expenses for the private security of the children and the private school, including college.
They will also pay their own debts, the agreement said. The two had a prenuptial agreement and kept their assets separate.
The judge declared the two legally single at Kardashian’s request in March, ending their eight-year marriage, but there were still issues of ownership and custody that would have to be resolved in a trial starting Dec. 14.
