UK police have arrested a man and a 19-year-old girl for the fatal shooting of beauty salon employee Elle Edwards in a crowded pub on Christmas Eve.

Edwards, 26, was shot in the head in front of his friends when someone opened fire before midnight on Saturday inside the Lighthouse Inn pub in Wallasey Village on Merseyside.

Four other customers were injured in the shooting, which sent shock waves across the country, where gun violence is rare.

On Monday, police announced the arrest of a 30-year-old man from Tranmere on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with what officers described as Edwards’ “cold-blooded shooting”, BBC News reported.

On Monday, Coombs said the investigation into the murder was ongoing and urged the public with knowledge of the incident to come forward.

“We will not rest until we bring those responsible to justice and I call on anyone with information to contact us,” he said.

Edwards was dancing inside the crowded pub when a hail of gunfire broke out before midnight.

Coombs said during a news conference on Sunday that the gunman fired toward the entrance.

Friends described the moment Edwards fell to the ground with a gunshot to the head.

A woman performed CPR on the young woman before medics arrived.

Edwards was rushed to Arrow Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The shooting also seriously injured a 28-year-old man, who remained in hospital on Tuesday.

A 22-year-old pub customer was injured in the legs, a 24-year-old man suffered a hand injury and a 33-year-old man injured his wrist.

Edwards worked as a beautician at a salon called Nova Studio in Wirral, where his co-workers mourned his violent death.

“Heaven has won the most beautiful angel,” read a message posted on the salon’s Instagram page.

“We are all heartbroken thinking of all of your family right now Elle.”

Edwards’ sister Lucy, who was at the pub with the victim but left before the shooting, visited the crime scene on Tuesday and left flowers at a makeshift memorial that is growing out of business.

Her card read, “To my Elle May, I love you forever, you will always be by my side.”
