One woman has revealed she kept a tampon inside her for two years, saying she thought she had Lyme disease until she finally went to a gynecologist.

Melanie Galeaz, 22, from Massachusetts, shared her shocking story for the first time in a now-viral TikTok video, which shows her lip-synching to Lana Del Rey’s ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’.

“When I accidentally left a tampon on for two years but I was literally just a teenager,” the “Just for tonight” author wrote in the on-screen text.

“Not my proudest moment,” she added in the caption.

Many TikTok users were baffled by his confession and questioned how she didn’t have toxic shock syndrome (TSS) – a highly dangerous bacterial infection.

‘YOU MUST CHANGE THEM EVERY 2 HOURS NOT EVERY 2 YEARS’ commented one person, while another asked: ‘How did you NOT get toxic shock?’

Galeaz shared the full story in a follow-up video, admitting that he spent years thinking his gynecological issues were related to Lyme disease.

“When I was little, I was bitten by a tick and had all the symptoms of Lyme disease,” she explained. ‘But the tests were kind of confusing whether I had it or not.’

Galeaz said doctors gave her medicine to treat her symptoms, and she was “fine” until her sophomore year of high school.

“I started getting all these body aches and some really nasty things were happening down south,” she recalled. “I went to the doctor, but I didn’t mention the problems that are happening in the south, which I know were my fault.

‘But the doctor was really disregarding me, and he was being mean. He was really embarrassed. I was 14 and it was really gross and embarrassing so I just didn’t want to deal with it,” she continued.

“I was kind of hoping that maybe it was something to do with the Lyme disease and that I could just ignore it with the meds and it would go away.”

Galeaz said the medicine she was given helped with the pain, but there was no improvement in her gynecological symptoms.

‘When I get stressed about something, I ignore it, so I don’t have to deal with it until it passes,” she explained. 🇧🇷[That] never works, especially in this case.’

Two years later, she was a senior in college and she was still having problems. This time, she chose to consult a gynecologist.

She added that there was a period when she had a total of three pads inside her as a teenager.

“She opens me up, looks inside and gasps,” she recalled. ‘I’m like, ‘Well, that’s not what you want to hear’. You don’t want to hear someone gasp when they’re looking inside you.

’ And then she said, ‘You have a tampon stuck horizontally under your cervix. And I say, “What? What did you just say?”

‘Let’s just say that removing it hurt because it was dissolving inside me, then it fell apart and it was such an unpleasant experience.’

Galeaz noted that the gynecologist didn’t believe her when she said the tampon had been inside her for two years.

‘She said, ‘That hasn’t been stuck inside you for two years.’ I’m like, ‘Well, I’ve had these issues for two years now, so I don’t know what to tell you,'” she explained.

‘Not believing me is fair. Honestly, I have no proof. Me and the tampon have already parted ways,” she continued. ‘All the pain in my body, it wasn’t Lyme disease. I don’t even think I have Lyme disease…

“Doctors think I had some sort of infection in my body from the tampon, which makes sense. That was just my body’s reaction.

‘For everyone asking about the smell… [come] from a family that absolutely would have destroyed me by the smell if it had. It wasn’t,’ she insisted.

‘Sometimes it smelled really bad, and it made me really sad thinking it smelled like that naturally, so I figured out ways to mask it and it worked.’

If the story wasn’t shocking enough, she shared that there was a period when she had a total of three tampons inside her as a teenager.

“During that two year period, I took one out and another one came out with it, and I have no idea one was coming,” she said. ‘So I had one on me for two years, one on me for an unknown amount of time, and one on me for eight hours.

‘That’s the story. Please be kind to me. It was stupid, but I’m sensitive. Don’t be mean,’ she pleaded at the end of the video.
